Kindness Overview
The simple practice. The cocktail-party version. Short enough to remember and repeat.
Kindness is a learnable superpower we all have.
Notice. Choose. Act. Then give it a thumbs up.
Why kindness?
Kindness gives happiness and meaning to life. It is a skill we can all strengthen — with ourselves, our families, at school, at work, and in our communities.
- You feel better. The act often comes back as calm and energy.
- Relationships get clearer. Being noticed and thanked rebuilds trust.
- It spreads. One act makes the next one more likely.
What we mean by kindness
Kindness is more than being nice. It is a practice:
Notice a moment.
Choose a kinder response.
Act.
Then give it a thumbs up.
A thumbs up is a universal yes — instant, positive, and understood almost everywhere. It makes kindness visible so more of it happens.
The heart in the logo is the warm feeling of helping. The lift you get when you make someone’s day better — including your own.
How it works — the Kindness Cycle
Kind act + thumbs up + smile.
- Kind act. Notice a moment. Choose to help. A thank you, a hand, a second of attention — for someone else or for yourself.
- Thumbs up. Mark it. A thumbs up (or a sincere thank you) makes the act visible and fuels the next one.
- Smile. The warm feeling of helping moves on. One act makes the next one more likely.
Start with the easiest first rep: Thank You.
Lines worth remembering
- Kindness is a learnable superpower.
- Notice. Choose. Act. Then give it a thumbs up.
- One thumbs up starts a ripple.
- Start with Thank You.
- Take kindness viral — one act at a time.
Who it’s for
Same skill. Five places. Start with one.
Self • Home & Family • School • Work • Community
Kindness at home shows up at school and at work. One place is enough to start.
How it began
Thumbs Up For Kindness started at the kitchen table. Grandparents Jeff Brown and Amey Harding wanted to teach their grandsons Jake and Adam a skill they could use.
What began as a family practice grew into HeroKindness, Kindness Monkey, the Kindness Song, and a simple daily habit anyone can start today.
