Pause, Then Draw
A Team HeroKindness Adventure
“Pause. Thumbs up instead.”
Adam has the invention in his head. The pencil will not catch it. He asks for help. Jake does not take the pencil. He sits close, helps him pause, and encourages one try again.
The encounter
The kitchen table is the lab. Adam’s paper is full of crossed-out wings, wheels, and a box that was supposed to open by itself.
He presses too hard. The tip snaps.
“I can’t do this. I need help.”
Jake is nearby. He sees the tight hand and the snapped pencil. He walks over. He sits beside Adam. He does not grab the paper.
“I am really listening. You need help. The idea is there. The line is stuck.”
Adam nods.
Jake puts his own hand palm up on the table. Not on the paper.
“Pause. Three seconds. Then we regroup. Thumbs up instead — at the idea, not at the mess.”
They count. One. Two. Three. Adam’s shoulders drop.
“You can do this. Not the whole invention. One part. The box, or the wing. I’ll sit with you.”
Adam picks up the pencil. He draws the box. Just the box. It is crooked. It is his.
Jake gives a thumbs up.
“See? You can do it. Wait — I’ll draw the next part.”
What changed: Adam asked for help. The pause made room. One true line came back.
The move comes from Pause Pax · Pax Stillchoice™. Practice the skill on /team-herokindness-pause-pax. He is not in this adventure. Jake carries the pause home.

The kindness move
Learn it: Kindness Pause when someone says “I need help.”
- Hear the ask. Do not take over.
- Stop. Palm up. Count three.
- Say, “Pause. Thumbs up instead.”
- Regroup. One small piece. “You can do this.”
- Stay beside them for the next try.
This is not drawing it for them. This is three seconds, then encouragement.
Kid try-it
Home When a drawing or build stalls and they say “I need help,” sit beside them. Count three. Ask for one part. Tell them they can do that part.
School Before you scrap the page, pause. Pick one piece. Try it again.
You saw the skill. Now you can practice it.
The Team Promise
I learned a kindness skill.
I will use it.
I will not use the badge to boss anyone.
I will help kindness travel — one thumbs up, one thank you, one act at a time.
First mission · Kindness Pause: When help is asked for, stop. Three seconds. Then one kind try, with them.
