Be Your Own Brand
A Team HeroKindness Adventure
“Be kind to yourself. Be your own person.”
Cohen is copying someone else’s brand. Jake does not lecture. He practices one kindness skill — with a friend.
The encounter
Art class. Everyone is making a name card for the wall.
Cohen watches the kid next to him. That card is loud. Big letters. Cool colors. The kind everyone points at.
Cohen slides his own paper over. He starts to copy the letters. Then the colors. Then the whole look. His face says not-good-enough.
Creative Jake sees it. He does not grab the paper. He sits beside Cohen.
“Cohen. You’re copying his brand.”
“His looks better. Mine doesn’t.”
Jake waits one beat. That is the friend move.
“Be kind to yourself, Cohen. Be your own person. Your brand is still in development. It does not have to match his.”
“But what if mine is plain?”
“Plain is still yours. I have an idea. Let’s try it.”
Jake points at Cohen’s paper, not the other kid’s.
“One true thing. Your name. Your color. One mark only you would make.”
Cohen draws a small circle — his own mark. Not a copy. He writes his name the way he writes it. He adds one color he likes, not the loud one.
Jake gives a thumbs up.
“That’s your brand. Still growing. Still yours.”
“Our Superpower Sparks are lighting up.”
What changed: Cohen stopped borrowing someone else’s look. He was kind to the person still learning — himself.

The kindness move
Learn it: Self-kindness when you want to copy.
- Notice the copy. Name it.
- Talk to yourself like a friend. “I’m learning. Mine can be mine.”
- Pick one true thing — your name, your color, your mark.
- Leave their brand on their paper.
- Let yours stay in development. That is allowed.
This is not “be different to show off.” This is not putting their work down. This is kindness turned inward, then outward as your own brand.
Kid try-it
School Next time you want to copy a poster, outfit, or answer style, pause. Keep one piece that is only yours.
Home Make a small name card. One color. One mark. Say out loud: “Be kind to yourself. Be your own person.”
You saw the skill. Now you can practice it.
The Team Promise
I learned a kindness skill.
I will use it.
I will not use the badge to boss anyone.
I will help kindness travel — one thumbs up, one thank you, one act at a time.
First mission · Self-Kindness: When you start to copy, stop. Be kind to yourself. Build your brand, not theirs.
