Luna Hearwell™ · Skill: Listening

“I am really listening to what you are saying.”

Listen Luna of Team HeroKindness
Team HeroKindness badge

Kindness role: hears what is being said without interruption, and takes the time to give full attention.

Look. Listen. Let them finish.

This skill is not about fixing. It is about hearing.

Listen Luna has mastered the superpower of listening. You can learn it, practice it in 3 lessons, and become Kindness Skill-Certified — ready to apply it.

After you print the certificate, you can join Team HeroKindness. Say the Team Promise. Then wear the badge.

What listening is

Listening is giving someone your attention so you can hear what they mean, not just the words they said.

It is not waiting for your turn. It is not fixing. It is not agreeing with everything. It is staying with the other person long enough that they feel heard.

Luna’s line: “I am really listening to what you are saying.” Then you wait.

Practice makes the skill stronger

Listening is a skill. You get better by using it.

  1. Notice the habit. Phone out. Eyes away. “Yeah but…”
  2. Try one small move. Eyes up. Let them finish.
  3. Feel the difference. They stay. They tell you more.
  4. Do it again. School. Home. Friends.
The skill: Listening

Learn it: Look. Listen. Let them finish.

How to use it: Give full attention. Do not interrupt. Say Luna’s line. Wait.

Impact on you: You build trust, calm, and stronger connections.

Impact on others: People feel valued, safe, and truly heard.

Collect it: Complete the 3 lessons. Print the certificate.

Where listening shows up

In school: first instructions · a classmate’s answer · group work · someone left out · “I don’t get it.”

At home: a parent’s direction · someone tired or quiet · a sibling who wants to show you something · “how was your day?”

With friends: “I’m fine” · left out of a plan · they start talking, then stop. Ask: “Do you want ideas, or do you want me to listen?”

Listening Game

Stand in a line or sit in a circle. Whisper a short phrase to the right. The last person says it out loud. Compare it to the first line.

Keep the starter phrase kind and short. No secrets. No teasing the last person.

Learn listening in 3 lessons

Open one lesson. Print it. Run it at school or home.

Lesson 1 · Basics of listening · 15–20 minutes

School: Pair up. A talks 60 seconds. B does not interrupt. B says: “What I heard you say is ____.” Switch.

Home: Phones away two minutes. One person talks. Repeat one sentence before you reply.

Collect it: I listened to ____. I almost interrupted when ____. What I heard was ____.

Lesson 2 · Listening when someone is talking to you · 15–20 minutes

The fork: “Do you want ideas, or do you want me to listen?”

School: A tells a real small story. B uses Luna’s line, lets A finish, reflects one fact. Switch.

Home: One real talk. Stop what is in your hands. Let them finish. Say back the point.

Collect it: They were telling me ____. I stayed with their words by ____.

Lesson 3 · Listening when someone is in need · 15–20 minutes

Notice. Sit near. Use Luna’s line. Wait. Do not push. Get an adult if the moment is bigger than a check-in.

Collect it: I noticed ____. I waited. What changed was ____. If I needed an adult, I would tell ____.

Safety note

Listening is not counseling. Get an adult if the moment is bigger than a check-in.
