Brand in Development for schools
Learn branding first. Then apply it to ourselves.
Turn-key. No prep. About 15 minutes.
You teach the idea of a brand. Then students fill one worksheet. That page goes home.
I am a Brand in Development.
Kindness is the skill that grows the brand.
Our approach in class
Do not start by asking kids to “build a brand.” Start with what a brand is. Then connect it to a person. Then they try it on themselves.
A brand is the feeling people get from how you show up — again and again. Not a logo first. Built by repeated actions.
A product has a box and a promise. A person has a way of showing up and a way of treating people. Quality is character.
JK–1 draw. Grades 2–4 name a feeling. Grades 5–8 write a starter line. One kind act as proof. Page goes home.
Who this is for
JK through Grade 8. Same three steps. The last step changes with age. Optional. Not graded.
They hear the idea. They draw a mark. Words are optional.
They hear the idea. They draw and add a short line about the feeling they want to give.
They hear the five parts of a brand. Then they write a starter sentence. Sharing is still optional.
1. Teacher overview
Read this once before class. Then read the “Say this” lines in order. You do not need to invent an intro.
What you are doing
Kids already know product brands — shoes, games, teams. Today they learn what a brand actually is, see how a person can be one, then try the idea on themselves. Kindness is how a personal brand grows. The worksheet they take home is the work.
What success looks like
Students can say, in kid language, that a brand is a feeling. Every student has something on the page: a drawing, a word, or a sentence. The page goes home. You do not collect it unless a child wants you to see it.
Say this — Step 1 · Learn branding
Say: “You already know brands. A brand is not just a logo. A brand is the feeling people get from how something shows up — again and again.”
Say: “Brands are made by what happens over and over: actions, words, and how people are treated.”
Say this — Step 2 · A person can be a brand
Say: “A cereal box has packaging and a promise. A person does too. Packaging is how you show up. Promise is how people feel around you. Quality is how you treat people.”
Say: “You are a Brand in Development. That means you are still becoming someone. That is a good thing. Kindness is the skill that grows the brand.”
Say this — Step 3 · Apply it
Say: “Today you get one page. Draw or write how you want people to feel when you show up. Take it home. Ask your family.”
Say once, do not require a repeat: “I am a Brand in Development.”
Do not say: that they must share, that there is a right brand, that this is for a grade, or that they have to join a club.
If you want it on the board
Five words. Product vs person. Keep it short.
| Part of a brand | A product | A person |
|---|---|---|
| Packaging | Box and logo | How you show up |
| Promise | What you can expect | How people feel around you |
| Personality | Fun, bold, serious | Your character |
| Values | Words on a box | Kindness you practice |
| Story | An ad | Who you are becoming |

2. How to do this activity
Follow the clock. Learn first. Apply second. Skip a later step if you run out of time. The worksheet still goes home.
Hand out the worksheet. Names at the top.
Step 1. Read the two “Learn branding” lines.
Step 2. Read the two “Person as a brand” lines. Point at the board table if you posted it.
Step 3. Feeling question, private is fine: “How do I want people to feel when I show up?”
Students draw a mark and fill what they can. Younger kids may only draw.
Optional: one volunteer shares a word — not a story. Most pages stay private. Send the page home.
If you only have 5 minutes
Read: brand = feeling, not logo. Read: a person can be a brand. Students draw one mark. Families finish the rest at home.
If someone is stuck
Point to the starter words: kind, helper, friend, brave, include, smile. Copying a starter is allowed.
If a child does not want to write about themselves
They can draw Kindness Monkey still growing, or only write “I am a Brand in Development.” That counts. Quiet still counts.
After class (optional, not today)
Student worksheet
Print a class set. The top of the page reminds them what a brand is. Then they apply it. The page goes home.
